Got Belly Issues

Got Belly Concerns

So, what makes our belly swell! I was eating foods that are easy to digest, but I noticed every time I consumed food or drink, my stomach would swell more and more. I began to research this matter out and found the answer!

Where does digestion begin?

The 9 step process of digestion:

Mouth – Our teeth must chew our food thoroughly about 20-35 times. Our saliva covers the food in our mouths to make for a smooth swallow. Our tongue determines the taste buds such as salty, sweet, sour and bitter.

Esophagus – This is the transportation tube in which our food travels.

Stomach – Our stomach uses chemicals to make the food smaller. This process takes about 3 – 4 hours.

Liver/Gall Bladder – Our food is covered with more chemicals. Our liver makes a chemical called bile, but bile is not stored in the liver. It’s stored in the gall bladder. The fat will supply us with energy later.

Pancreas – Also adds a digestive chemical that breaks down the carbohydrates and proteins.

Small Intestine – is about 22 feet long! As the food passes through, its mixed with new chemicals and ready to be used by the body. Finally its sent off to the rest of our body through the blood.

Large Intestine – Whatever the body could not use is sent to the large intestine. Water has been necessary up until now, but is no longer needed. Food takes about 12 hours in the large intestine where it become feces and later leaves the body.

So, where does digestion begin? In the mouth!
